Mobile alternator replacement

If the battery light came on or the car died while you were driving, the alternator is the usual suspect. We test before we replace, then fit it where the car sits.

Engine bay during an alternator and charging system repair

A dead battery and a dead alternator look identical

Both leave you with a car that won't start. The difference matters, because replacing a perfectly good battery when the alternator is the actual fault means you'll be stranded again in a few days.

So we test the charging system first — output under load, ripple, and the state of the battery itself. Only then do we tell you what needs replacing.

Signs it's the alternator, not the battery

Headlights dimming and brightening with engine speed. The battery warning light coming on while you're driving rather than at startup. A whine that changes pitch with the revs. Electronics behaving strangely — radio cutting out, dash lights flickering.

The clearest sign of all: you jump-started it, drove away, and it died again shortly after. A healthy alternator would have kept it running.

From $155, fitted where the car is

That's labor on most cars, parts separate. Some engines put the alternator somewhere awkward and take longer, so we confirm the price for your specific vehicle before we start. Parts bought through us carry a warranty.

Questions

Alternators, answered

Can you replace an alternator on the roadside?

In most cases yes, provided the car is somewhere safe to work — a parking lot, a shoulder with room, or a driveway. If the location isn't safe we'll say so.

Will you test it before replacing it?

Always. Charging system testing is part of the diagnostic, and we'd rather find out it's a $125 battery than sell you a $400 alternator you didn't need.

Do you supply the alternator or should I buy it?

Either works. Parts bought through us come with a warranty, some up to lifetime. If you supply your own, we'll fit it, but the warranty is between you and wherever you bought it.
